But the most common and most useful among these is aloe vera. Aloe vera is also called as 'True Aloe' for this reason. The species name 'vera' means 'true'. Aloe vera is a native plant of Africa. It is most commonly found in Africa, Northern America, Egypt, India and Sudan.
Aloe Vera and Skin
Aloe vera has many benefits. It is used as a cooling agent, when ingested it increases immunity, relieves digestive tract trouble and soothes the body. In spite of all these benefits aloe vera is widely used in treating skin-related problems. Aloe vera 'the burn plant' is a multi-healer. Owing to its anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, healing and cooling properties it is a very useful natural element to treat our skin. Aloe vera also contains a rich source of amino acids, vitamins A, C, F, B, niacin and traces of Vitamin B12.
Aloe Vera and Infections
Aloe vera can be used to treat minor infections.
Acne: acne affects everyone at one point of their lives. Acne is a skin condition where the body produces more sebum (bodily oil) and the pore are clogged. Owing to this the pores get infected and bacteria start to multiply in these pores. Aloe vera's anti-bacterial properties reduce these acne and helps in preventing recurrences.
Redness: skin redness can be because of a variety of factors. It can be because of sensitivity, due to an allergy or a reaction to any toxins in our body or to any medication. Aloe vera reduces this redness effectively.
Dryness: dryness can again be due to a variety of factors. It can be due to winter or summer, it can occur when you are exposed to wind. It can also occur when there are some other factors involved. Dryness is mainly lack of moisture. Aloe vera is very hydrating and restores the moisture in the skin.
Sunburn: In summers, sunburns are a major problem. Even though we use many sun blocks and sun screens, sun always gets its way. Aloe vera is an excellent cooling agent. It can be used as a gel or as a spray on. An aloe vera bath also helps.
Pigmentation: Pigmentation can occur due to many reasons. The skin produces either less or more melanin, this can even be genetic. Aloe vera can help in reducing and eliminating minor pigmentation problems. Aloe vera's active ingredients work to improve the skin's production of natural chemicals.
Brightens it up: aloe vera is a known skin brightening agent. It helps in brightening the skin by removing the dead cells and rejuvenating the skin cells.
